Built by someone who has seen both sides.
Belong In Movement was founded by Lydia Ching — a human rights lawyer and certified fitness instructor who has spent years on both sides of the bridge this programme is trying to build.
The Lawyer
As a qualified lawyer in Hong Kong specialising in refugee protection and juvenile justice, Lydia spent years representing ethnic minority children and other marginalised communities — including asylum-seeker children caught in the juvenile justice system, whose sense of what was possible for their own lives had narrowed to almost nothing.
By the time these children became her clients, the harm had already happened. That is what shaped the conviction behind Belong In Movement: that the most important work is preventive, not legal. The intervention worth building is the one that reaches a child beforehand — not by the time.
The Instructor
Lydia is also a certified fitness instructor who trains, runs, and practises across strength and endurance work. That has let her understand the fitness world from the inside, and connect with studio owners, practitioners, and trainers in Hong Kong and beyond — many of them from ethnic minority backgrounds, ready to lend their skill to something larger than a class.
